Learning Assistant for Puutake – Kaiāwhina

James Cook High School is a diverse and vibrant learning community committed to doing the very best for our students who come from the multicultural diversity of Manurewa and the surrounding area.

Our current roll capacity in the vicinity of 1600 students, and our students continue to achieve sustained improvements across a wide range of metrics, including improved learning, engagement, and overall achievement.  We are seeking to appoint two enthusiastic, experienced fixed term Learning Assistants/ Kaiāwhina for a Term 1, 2025  start in Puutake Te Wāhanga Māori.  Puutake offers both Rumaki Reo and Bilingual Reo pathways.  We receive students with diverse backgrounds and proficiency in Te Reo Māori from beginner reo speakers to our fluent students who come to us from kura reo.

James Cook High School is a restorative practices school, and we believe strongly in building positive relationships with our students. 

The focus of this role is to support students in class. The person should demonstrate empathy towards Māori learners. Te Reo Māori me ōnā tikanga knowledge is a requirement of this role.  Experience within class Literacy support will be regarded as an advantage.

This is a Term Time only, Fixed term 30 hours per week role due to roll growth.
